Long time no update!

I been keeping busy doing lots of things that isn't this. I needed a break but I have 3 new pieces in the past month that I have worked on and completed. Trying to take a step back from the grand ideas and keep it simple.

As you can see below, I made an update to an old render from back near 2010, with the kitchen. I made the original in Mental Ray and used what I knew to get the, at the time "amazing render! I just wrapped those two up tonight. The dining set image was done a few weeks prior. I believe it took me around 5-6 hours total time, start to finish. The kitchen took some time to go through, remodeled and retexture to Vray. I'm pretty happy with my new images, I'm growing!

Added Landscaping

Started adding plants, changed the sun location a bit more....will need to do color corrections to some of the plants. Sign has just a basic metallic type material for now. A few plants are sticking out a bit more then I'd like from the rest. Added a few bits of detail to the grass, like weeds and dandelions and some other grass variations. Still need to work on the street, would like to make it look not so new, some cracks and such into the edges.

I will try for a higher resolution image for next weekend!

So my street scene is not cooperating all of a sudden so thought I'd jump to something small scale so that I could both figure where it was going wrong plus feel like I was actually getting some where. I have a lot left to do. The stone caps are just a flat color. I'm pretty happy with the lighting. I tried a number of angles until I settled on this one. At some point this week I'll put the landscaping in and build out the signage...I wont get crazy with the name, it'll probably just say Apartments...oooooo! aaahhh! I may try to move the tree on the left a bit to get that shadow more on the left and bottom of the image though. Plus I have some other details I'd like to add to this. On my poor lil i5, this too 3.5hrs to render.

I did find the issue I think with my street scene and will jump back in as soon as I can complete this. This isn't as big as that so shouldn't take too much longer.

Adding color...

Started to add some texture to the scene. Finally got my road to a happy place, added concrete material to the side walks and the curbs, Curbs are tiling so still need to clean up that triangular shape in it to remove that aspect. Placed in actual 3D trees to the background and tinkered more with the sky to remove that blasting orange light that was out of place before. Still a lot to do....need to color correct them trees some so that aren't glowy looking, like they are, the driveways need to be mapped correctly, right now it's just one big reflection puddle. I used Itoo Lite for the trees in the background too! Makes life so much easier...

Close up of the street, driveway and grass

I'm continuing my dusk look. I placed an HDRI image and a low angled Vray Sun, exposed my physical camera....only the one view so far. Added the grass areas and used Vray Fur. Lit the coach lights and will eventually have street lamps and garden lamps as well. Still need to work on the sky, I like it....I liked the color but I cant quite get it to how I want it. The tree line is temporary until I can get some 3D trees and landscaping. Next Will be working on the mulch beds and landscaping, I'll leave the homes materials for last. Not sure when I'll get back to this, hoping for a few hours more this weekend. So far I've put in around 6-7 hours over 2 days to get to this point. Homes were already built.

I work.....A LOT....like a lot a lot. I have very little drive when I come home. I'm on vacation from work so...yea.....I'm dumb but I started to put together a new scene! I NEED to go back to the other one or two I started but I really would like to do this one. It's been in my head for a long time now.

I've got two some what similar shorts. One will be a bit closer up and closer to the ground looking down the road. I also plan on making these night shots, at first, day shots later if I can get around to it. For now....here's where I got!

3ds Max 2017, Vray and some Forest Pack Lite coming soon.

It's not a major update but I did a few things today. I been bored and lazy all day just floating into something to do for an hour or so then get bored and move into the next. So this is maybe 2 hours of work. Used the floor gen script and mostly putzed around with the reflections on the ground from the windows. Added curtains and did the kitchen and floor boards. Oh yea, and a fireplace!

Time for an Interior!

Thought I'd try my hand at an interior...it's been a while! Here's where I am at. My guess from hearing about the new features in Max 2015, is that my headache of matching this photo would have taken 5 seconds instead of the 20 mins of moving the camera here and moving the target there....but...it's close enough. I see a few things that dont seem to line up for for the most part it's all there.

This is a photo I found almost a year ago and have just been sitting on it. Wanted to try and get the same feel and instead I have practically copied it completely over. So here we go...

Art Director loved my last render.....called it my "ah-ha" moment! Asked that I take a boring home design and plug it into the same scene and make it look just as good......excepted!!!

New Update on a almost finished project

| Saturday, April 5, 2014

I'm almost done with this new project finally. I brought it in to the guys at work to rip it apart sine I'm at the point where it just looks horrible no matter what I do. I hate when I get to that point in a project.....but..... they said it looked great and gave me some pointers on just a couple small things that'd make the image and allow me to wrap it up! I'll have this image posted on my portfolio site most likely within the week "finished"

Few textures have been added and more landscaping
I been working and working but havent done anything on this blog in about a year so I might as well try to revive it! Here is my newer work I am starting. It's in Vray....yes I have been using it for almost 6 plus months agian! I have been scouring the internet for good free landscaping and have started to amass a nice little set. Not the greatest of the great but not too bad.

Grey Scale light test
Just using a basic Vray Sun light system. Textures from CGTextures. Plants from every where. The main building was something I did in Revit a couple plus years ago. Might have a posting on it here even. I finally am finishing it and decided to use it in this scene!

New office rendering almost complete

| Sunday, May 26, 2013

Im bout there with this one. I had something come up this past week or so, so didnt have much time to do anything new to this. I posted it up for comments on my normal CGArch forum and waiting to get some feedback. Nothing really as of yet. Only nice things like my joints and what not. Im pretty happy with it. Its my first ever complete Vray render. I think I learned what not to do. My comp hated the trees and really should have used Proxies. Also need to figure out which exact elements I should use to get the nice composite. For this I did my normal use the complete render and then layer on top the elements and cut out pieces to manipulate colors, levels, and any other effects. I've done these so many ways and I personally like the control I get doing it this way. Some day Im sure I'll switch it up and go another way like I usually do.

Next, whenever I can get my mind straightened out I am going to redo and old render I did back in around 2006 with Mental Ray. It was one of my first and I see soooo many errors in it. I just figured at the time it was what it was but now I know how to make it right, only this time it'll be Vray! Also will try and add some more elements into this to make it a bit more homely.

Here is my next project. It's the office I work at. Maybe 2 hours of work right here if that. Blocked out the building and the surrounding landscaping I'll probably switch out some trees, especially for the closer ones to the camera. I've got a few thankfully from all the freebies 3D World and various sites give away. I just throw a standard light and area shadow just to give me an idea of what this will look like and to help find my camera angle. I like this angle, so I'm going to roll with this. I'l planning on grabbing some pics tomorrow or some time this week and to get going on this. Shouldn't take too long to make this render.

Simple Room Composite

| Sunday, March 3, 2013

It took a lot longer to render then I thought it would take. About 12 hours total for all the passes to finish up this 1500x703 render. I brought it all into Photoshop and loaded up all my SPEC and Reflection layers. Added some glare, and a blue Hue to the room. Also made a few little edits in cleaning some parts of the render out as well. Im not 100% happy with this....but it looks mighty good! I feel like some thing is missing from this for some reason. Im going to step away from it and leave as is for now till I can figure out what it might be.

Lighting is set!

| Friday, March 1, 2013

OK so Im getting there slowly but surely! I plan on finishing this up this coming weekend unless some thing pops up on me. Not a lot left to do. I got the lighting to where I liked it. I pretty much skipped texturing the lamp and books and really wanted to see what the lighting would look like once I got it set. I like it!

I plan on texturing the lamp, the books, changing the rug out to some thing else that'll look nicer. This one even with the high texture looks terrible. Also would like to add some more models to the other shelf but may just throw more books up there depending on time. I'll have I hope the final update on this in about a week! :)

Model, texture, lighting

I been working on this simple room as I'm calling it off and on for the past few weeks. I modeled EVERY thing in the scene except the for plant. Here I modeled a pair of glasses and one of my drinking glasses.
This is the room about 75% textured before I got impatient and wanted to set up the daylight system. That with 3 mr light helpers. This is before the lighting of course
Here's what it looks like with noooo settings but the basic defaults on the lights.
